    History: Made in the 1860's. Belonged to an aunt of the donors. Pansy fringe trim.
  2. A. Skirt B. Bodice - The interesting thing about the dress is the way the skirt is made. For housewear this would sweep the floor ; but on the underside tapes are arranged so that by tying them up, a series of puffs are made across the back which shortens the skirt to walking length. Has large pocket set into one side of shirt at front gore. Also boasts a watch pocket. Under bodice corsetting.

    History: Belonged to Mrs. George W. Phollips (Mattie) who was a member of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. Made in Paris, France.
    6 front stays and 2 side stays and breast pads.

    Chartreusse (Pea Green). Fly fringe down both sides, belt w/fringe at waist.
    Coat sleeve under bodice corsetting.
    Skirt - left front opening
    Back - cartridge pleating and puffing (ties inside)

    Description: Short bodice. Ruching (box pleats) from front of bodice around neck and down (2 rows)
    Coat sleeve, armseys has contrasting piping sleeves accented w/2 sets of ruching.
    4 stays in front, 2 inside, self piping, silk satin.
    Front shirt has 2 A-shaped stripes in dark green
    4 ruching stripes joining the "A" in center.
    Horse chair crinoline lining skirt and ruching back of shirt alternates w/darker green stripes
    2 gathered ruffles and 2 plain panels back cartridge pleating w/button attachment
    Waist - 24"

  1. Dress #1202 - 1860 Blue and Silver One Piece Dress

    Belonged to: Mrs. J.H. Thompson - 1860 , Mother of donor - nee Ellen Gould.
    Description: Horizontal stripe except for sleeves which are diagonal stripe. 3 narrow pieces of black velvet ribbon following the front bodice and ending in a point in the back. Also 3 black stripes on each sleeve. Back has cartridge pleating.
    Card: pocket, left front opening, inverted box pleating on both front and sides, under bodice corsette, stays front sides and back.
